Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week is an annual appreciation of the backbone of person-centered services – DSPs!
The Arc Madison Cortland celebrated DSP Week by spotlighting the dedication, innovation, and unmatched care that our staff provide to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Throughout the week, we visited Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) homes, day habilitation, senior program, and respite to capture special moments between Arc individuals and the DSPs who support them.
We tapped into the heart of these unsung heroes by video recording daily activities. From crafts to cooking, doctor appointments to lunch dates, the DSP staff make each day memorable. In the video, we showcased the impact staff make in the community by interviewing DSPs about what makes their job special and what it was like to continue working during a pandemic.
In addition to the spotlight video, we also asked staff members to create specialized hashtags of what being a DSP means to them. With #Love, #Advocacy, and #ChangingLives being some of the most popular, each hashtag gave a unique perspective and was a small fraction of the recognition that these individuals deserve throughout the year.
